After the success of "Trailer Made", "Billboard" is the second feature film produced by a group of South African filmmakers. Following a successful movie production model, that focuses on the entire family as the target audience.
American missionary couple, Mr. and Mrs. Harding run an orphanage in Franschhoek, South Africa - "Hopesprings Orphanage for Boys". Funding for the orphanage has taken a drastic knock due to global economic conditions and the future of each orphan is in jeopardy. To add to this situation, a wealthy property developer, Jack Le Roux, plans to purchase and demolish the orphanage in 10 days time so that construction of an upper class development can commence.
Mr. and Mrs Harding reach out to their daughter, Megan, to come to Franschhoek and help plan a corporate Golf day as a final attempt to raise the required funds to save the orphanage. Megan works for a large New York based marketing agency and her boss agrees to her taking some time off to help a greater cause.
Troy Johnson, an ambitious young Cape Town based businessman, travels to Franschhoek at the same time every year to visit the crash site and graves of his parents. On his visit he crosses paths with Megan and he is instantly attracted to her.
Troy comes up with every reason under the sun to spend time with Megan, pretending to be interested in the cause of "saving the orphanage". Eventually Megan confronts him, exposing him for the self-centered individual he is, saying that "he is no better than Jack Le Roux". Troy does his best to convince her otherwise, but it is only with the help of Siseko, one of the orphans, that he realises Megan is right. At the same time he finds out that his deceased father was one of the founding members of the orphanage, this has a great impact on him.
The golf day doesn't prove to be as successful as hoped and when all seems lost Troy decides to run a national billboard marketing campaign to help Megan raise the funds they need to save the orphanage. This proves to be successful.
Troy and Megan become "special" friends and together they take the campaign Global in an attempt to change the fate of every orphan on the face of the Earth.
